Kepada Tribun Jabar, atlet yang juga anggota TNI AD ini bercerita awal mula menjadi seorang pelari hebat seperti sekarang. "Tahun 95 di Magelang, saya kan tinggal di Magelang, itu saya tinggal di satu kampung di mana di kampung itu ada klub lari. Saya waktu itu sekitar umur 10 tahun. Di kampung saya itu kan musiman, musimnya main bola main bola, musimnya layangan main layangan. Akhirnya waktu itu lagi pada senang ikutan lari, saya enggak sengaja ikut teman-teman untuk ikut lari. Terus berlanjut waktu SD itu ada Porseni tingkat SD sekota Magelang, saya mendapat kesempatan untuk mewakili SD tempat saya belajar dan akhirnya disitu saya juara," ujar Agus di Kantor Penhumas Secapa AD, Kamis (26/7/2018).

Berpakaian lengkap seragam TNI AD, Agus yang saat ini sedang berhagia setelah dilantik menjadi Perwira di Sekolah Calon Perwira Angkatan Darat (Secapaad) menuturkan, niat untuk menjadi seorang atlet profesional muncul ketika ia mengenyam pendidikan SMP.

Saat itu lanjut Agus, dirinya ditawari untuk masuk sekolah lari oleh pelatihnya yang ada di kota Salatiga.

"Saya dikasih tahu oleh pelatih di Magelang bahwasannya di Salatiga ada beberapa klub lari yang atletnya berprestasi di tingkat nasional maupun internasional. Akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk hijrah ke Salatiga untuk bergabung ke klub lari tersebut. Dan saya fokus menjadi atlet lari," ungkapnya.

Menjadi seorang pelari profesional bukan jalan yang mudah bagi Agus.

Banyak jalan terjal yang dihadapi anak ketiga dari lima bersaudara ini untuk menjadi seorang pelari berprestasi.

Salah satunya adalah meninggalkan keluarga serta masa kecilnya.

"Yang saya rasakan berat banget karena saya harus meninggalkan keluarga, harus ninggalin teman-teman saya dari kecil, harus pindah ke lingkungan yang baru,"ucapnya.

Tekad dan keinginan Agus untuk menjadi pelari hebat tak pernah padam dalam dirinya.

Usaha dan pengorbanan Agus selama meniti karir ingin ia wujudkan dengan sebuah keberhasilan.

"Saya memutuskan untuk fokus ke sekolah atau saya fokus ke dunia lari tapi harus jadi atlet. Jadi saya enggak pernah berpikiran untuk berhenti sebelum berhasil," ujarnya.

Terlebih saat dirinya direkrut menjadi prajurit TNI AD yang secara resmi dilantik dengan pangkat Sersan Dua pada tahun 2008. Mental, fisik dan karakternya semakin tertempa.

Karier sebagai pelari sekaligus sebagai prajurit TNI AD semakin semakin melesat. Pribadinya sebagai prajurit sekaligus pelari profesional semakin menguatkan jiwa nasionalismenya.

Dia semakin fokus dan termotivasi untuk mencapai prestasi terbaik. Statusnya sebagai pelari dan prajurit TNI tidak menjadi halangan untuk terus mengukir prestasi, baik di tingkat nasional maupun internasional.

Menjadi prajurit adalah pilihan yang tepat baginya. Dia dapat terus menggali potensi dan kemampuan terbaik sebagai atlet sekaligus berperan sebagai abdi negara.

Seiring kariernya di dunia militer, prestasinya pun semakin menanjak. Hal ini terbukti dengan banyaknya capaian prestasi yang dicapai selama 10 tahun mengabdi sebagai anggota TNI.

Di sisi lain, karier militernya pun terbilang cukup bersinar.

Penghargaan yang diraihnya adalah buah manis kerja kerasnya. Atas raihan medali emas dan perak pada even Sea Games Tahun 2015 di Singapura, Kasad menganugerahi kenaikan pangkat luar biasa (KPLB) menjadi Sersan Kepala kepadanya pada tahun 2016.

Dia naik pangkat tiga periode lebih cepat dibandingkan rekan seangkatannya.

Juara SEA Games

Menjadi seorang atlet profesional sekaligus sebagai prajurit TNI dengan segudang prestasi tak pernah dibayangkan sebelumnya oleh Agus.

Bahkan, Agus mengungkapkan bahwa dirinya pernah menjadi atlet yang sama sekali tak diunggulkan saat akan berkompetisi.

Namun mental baja yang dimilikinya dan jiwa pantang menyerah sebagai prajurit TNI AD memberikan kepercayaan diri tersendiri baginya. Tekadnya adalah untuk mencapai hasil terbaik.

Kejadian ini, terjadi pada tahun 2009 saat SEA Games diselenggarakan di Laos.

"Waktu itu tahun 2009, justru saya pertama kali meraih juara SEA Games. Sebenarnnya saya waktu berangkat ke Laos termasuk atlet yang tidak diunggulkan, atlet yang tidak ditargetkan mendapat medali, karena sebelumnya saya belum jadi juara PON maupun juara nasional. Tapi kejutan tersendiri buat saya, pada tahun 2009 saya mendapat medali emas untuk Indonesia," ujarnya dengan penuh kebanggaan.

Dukungan TNI AD yang kini menjadi tempat mengabdi Agus begitu besar kepadanya.

TNI AD, kata Agus, selalu mendukung dan tak pernah menghalanginya untuk terus berprestasi.

"Yang pasti saya sangat berterimakasih ya, saya sangat bangga menjadi prajurit TNI AD, apalagi atas pencapaian saya selama ini saya diberikan peluang mengikuti pendidikan perwira, saya juga diberikan kesempatan untuk terus fokus berlatih untuk menuju ke Asian Games," ucapnya.

Selain itu, hal yang tak bisa dipungkiri adalah terus mengalirnya dukungan keluarga serta teman-teman terdekatnya yang juga berpengaruh terhadap karirnya.

Agus menyebut, doa serta dukungan dari lingkungan sekitarnya membuat dirinya begitu hebat.

Seiring bergulirnya usia yang tak lagi muda , Agus sang pelari dan prajurit yang menyandang pangkat Letnan Dua ini pun berharap, Indonesia bisa melahirkan pelari-pelari hebat yang bisa mengharumkan nama bangsa dan negara di masa depan.

"Dan harapan saya tidak hanya untuk bangsa Indonesia secara umum, dan khususnya untuk TNI AD, mudah-mudahan ada regenerasi atau penerus saya yang nanti bisa meneruskan prestasi saya, baik di tingkat nasional maupun internasional," ucapnya.
